Description

Indications

Used as a first-generation antihistamine for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions and as a temporary sleep aid. It is indicated for:

• Allergic Reactions: Relief of sneezing, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, and itchy throat associated with hay fever or upper respiratory allergies.

• Urticaria (Hives): Management of itchy, red welts on the skin.

• Antitussive: Relief of dry, non-productive cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation.

• Motion Sickness: Prevention and treatment of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

• Occasional Sleeplessness: A temporary aid to help with difficulty falling asleep.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults and Children 12 years and over:

  • For Allergy/Cough: Take 1 to 2 capsules (25 mg to 50 mg) every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 12 capsules (300 mg) in 24 hours.

  • For Sleep Aid: Take 2 capsules (50 mg) once daily at bedtime, or as directed by a doctor.

  • For Motion Sickness: Take 1 to 2 capsules (25 mg to 50 mg) 30 minutes before starting activity.

• Children 6 to 12 years:

  • Take 1 capsule (25 mg) every 4 to 6 hours. Do not exceed 6 capsules (150 mg) in 24 hours.

• Administration: Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.

Adverse Reactions

• Central Nervous System: Significant drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, disturbed coordination, or headache. In children, it may occasionally cause paradoxical excitation (restlessness/nervousness).

• Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, nose, and throat; nausea, constipation, or epigastric distress.

• Respiratory: Thickening of bronchial secretions (mucus).

• Cardiovascular: Heart palpitations or low blood pressure.

Important Safety Precautions

• Drowsiness Warning: This medication causes marked drowsiness. Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or engage in hazardous activities while taking this product.

• Alcohol Restriction: Avoid alcoholic drinks while using this medication, as alcohol will significantly increase the sedative (depressant) effects on the central nervous system.

• Pre-existing Conditions: Consult a doctor before use if you have glaucoma, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate.

• Drug Interactions: Do not use with any other product containing diphenhydramine (including topical versions) or with other sedatives/tranquilizers without medical advice.

• Elderly Patients: Use with caution in older adults, as they are more prone to dizziness, sedation, and confusion, which increases the risk of falls.

• Pregnancy and Nursing: Consult a healthcare professional before use. Diphenhydramine is excreted in breast milk and may cause irritability or sedation in a nursing infant.
