Description

Indications

Used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions. It is indicated for:

• Allergic Rhinitis: Relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (e.g., sneezing, runny/itchy nose, watery/itchy eyes).

• Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria: Relief of symptoms associated with chronic hives, such as itching and the appearance of wheals (red, raised bumps on the skin).

• Allergic Conjunctivitis: Redness and itching of the eyes caused by allergens.

Dosage and Administration

• Adults and Children 12 years and over: Take 1 tablet (10 mg) once daily.

• Children 6 to 12 years: Take 1 tablet (10 mg) once daily, or half a tablet (5 mg) twice daily (morning and evening).

• Elderly (65+ years): Consult a doctor, as a dose reduction (5 mg daily) may be recommended based on kidney function.

• Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food. If you find that the medication makes you feel slightly drowsy, it is best taken in the evening.

Adverse Reactions

While Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine designed to be non-drowsy, some individuals may still experience:

• Common: Somnolence (sleepiness), fatigue, dizziness, and headache.

• Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, nausea, or abdominal pain.

• Respiratory: Pharyngitis (sore throat) or epistaxis (nosebleed) in children.

• Serious Reactions (Rare): Hypersensitivity reactions (swelling of the face, difficulty breathing, or severe rash).

Important Safety Precautions

• Drowsiness Warning: Although less sedating than older antihistamines, caution should still be exercised when driving or operating heavy machinery until you are certain the medication does not impair your alertness.

• Alcohol Interaction: Avoid concurrent use of alcohol or other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, as Cetirizine may increase their sedative effects.

• Renal and Hepatic Impairment: Individuals with moderate to severe kidney or liver disease should consult a physician before use, as dosage adjustments are usually necessary.

• Pregnancy and Nursing: Use with caution. Consult a healthcare professional before use, as Cetirizine is excreted in breast milk.
