Indications

Used for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions and as an antitussive (cough suppressant). It is indicated for:

  • Allergic Reactions: Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergies (sneezing, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, and itchy throat).

  • Urticaria and Angioedema: Management of hives and localized swelling of the skin or mucous membranes.

  • Antitussive: Temporary relief of dry, non-productive cough caused by minor throat and bronchial irritation (common cold or inhaled irritants).

  • Motion Sickness: Prevention and treatment of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness associated with motion.

Dosage and Administration

Typical concentration is 12.5 mg per 5 mL (check your specific bottle labeling for confirmation).

  • Adults and Children 12 years and over:

    • Take 10 mL to 20 mL (25 mg to 50 mg) every 4 to 6 hours.

    • Maximum Daily Dose: Do not exceed 300 mg (120 mL of 12.5 mg/5 mL syrup) in 24 hours.

  • Children 6 to 12 years:

    • Take 5 mL to 10 mL (12.5 mg to 25 mg) every 4 to 6 hours.

    • Maximum Daily Dose: Do not exceed 150 mg (60 mL of 12.5 mg/5 mL syrup) in 24 hours.

  • Administration: Use a calibrated measuring cup or syringe for accurate dosing. It can be taken with or without food.

Adverse Reactions

  • Central Nervous System: Significant drowsiness, sedation, dizziness, disturbed coordination, or headache. In some children, it may cause paradoxical excitation (restlessness).

  • Gastrointestinal: Dry mouth, nose, and throat; epigastric distress (stomach upset), nausea, or constipation.

  • Respiratory: Thickening of bronchial secretions (mucus).

  • Cardiovascular: Palpitations or low blood pressure (hypotension).
